DARK ENTRIES Talk of Goth with Cathi Unsworth At the Century Club - Soho W1 Tuesday the 2nd May 2023 from 7 pm Goth - the bastard musical offspring of Punk and New Romanticism emerged in the early 1980s, spearheaded by bands such as the Cure, the Cult, Bauhaus and the Sisters of Mercy. Against the bleak socio-political background of the 1980s - the Cold War, the Miners’ Strike, the Troubles and AIDS – its gender fluid, outlaw imagery and innovative, atmospheric music spoke to a whole generation of alienated youth. The acclaimed Brit Noir novelist and music journalist Cathi Unsworth fell instantly under its spell as a teenager growing up on the Norfolk coast. Her latest book, Season of the Witch: The Book of Goth, is a personal and social history of one of the most enduring musical countercultures - one that steadfastly refuses to give up the ghost. Join Cathi, in conversation with the author and cultural commentator Travis Elborough, for a walk on the dark side. Tickets £12 - please click here to purchase Copies of Season of the Witch will be on sale on the night. PS - there will be prizes for the best dressed attendees: think Batcave club gutterhearts circa 1982: crimped hair, black eyeliner and fishnets.
