- FAERIE TALE BALL-
in the Faraway Forest

at Latitude Festival - Henham Park, Suffolk

Friday 17th July 2015 - 10:30 pm to 3:00 am

Once upon a nighttime, elves, faeries, witches, trolls, goblins and ogres dwelt in the Faraway Forest. Nowadays these moonlight creatures are rarely seen in our woodlands and their stories would be lost if it weren't for a powerful spell cast by the Queen of the Night, which decreed that their legends should stay eternally alive in a child's imagination. Dutiful to this curse parents around the world every night since then have tucked their children in bed and chilled their blood with traditional tales of mutilation, cannibalism, infanticide and sorcery.

For Latitude 2015 A Curious Invitation wishes to entice festival goers back into the innermost recesses of their childhood psyche with a Faerie Tale Ball in the Faraway Forest.

The Queen of the Night - Clad in night and stars, the sinister monarch stalks the forest in her eternal quest to vanquish the Temple of Ordeal and claim for herself the Circle of the Sun. Master puppeteers, Smoking Apples present this 10 foot golden puppet.

The Enchanted Ballroom - A ballroom frozen in time and overgrown with bindweed and poison ivy. This is the secret heart of the Queen of the Night's domain where woodland denizens cavort and carouse till dawn. Featuring a cabaret of curious creatures including Thy Last Drop, TeTe Bang, Carmen Mon Oxide, Little Evelyn Carnate, Miss Cairo, Miguel Dare and the Artful Badger’s Wild Woods.

The Dark Wood - A mystical sylvan realm surrounds the Enchanted Ballroom. Here the mischievous imp Rumpelstiltskin spins his rope, not into gold but into human nets in the fashion of Shibari, the ancient Japanese art of rope binding. Rope work carried out the Riggers of London.

The Glass Coffin - outside the enchanted ballroom sleeps a beautiful maiden in a glass coffin. Art Macabre will instruct visitors in capturing with pen and ink a moment from her spellbound slumber.

Warning: Enter our realm only if your heart is pure and your spirit true, traverse the darkness of the woods and trust your fairy tale will have a happy ending.

THE BLACK SHED

Fire-breathing dragons, toad-morphing princes and child-eating wolves: the fairytale forest is a realm frequented by fabulous beasts. Flirt with these fabled creatures in the Living Classroom’s legendary consortium of creepy crawlies as part of A Curious Invitation’s Faerie Tale Ball.

THE SHED OF STORIES

A Curious Invitation's Friday night Faerie Tale continues with Baba Yaga’s Hut. Do you dare enter the sinister Hut on Chicken’s Legs deep in the woods? Beware if the shrivelled crone Baba Yaga offers you stew from her cauldron. Who knows what previous visitors’ remains it might contain? The Dress Up Dolls will present this immersive retelling of the traditional East European fable.
